Eligibility

To be considered for admission into a study abroad program, you must:

Degree-Seeking Student

  • Be a current degree seeking undergraduate student at Illinois State University.
    • If you are a senior interested in studying abroad the summer after your graduation, please see the Graduating Seniors section.
  • Graduate students may participate only if denoted in the eligibility section of the program's snapshot tab.
  • Study Abroad programs are only open to current degree-seeking Illinois State University students.

Credit Requirement

  • Complete 24 credit hours at ISU or other college/university prior to program departure.
    • Dual credits and AP credits do not count towards this requirement.

GPA Requirement

  • Have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 (undergraduate students) or 3.0 (graduate students).
  • Please see the eligibility section of the program's snapshot tab for each program's specific GPA requirement. Typically, GPA requirements range from:
    • Faculty-Led Programs: range 2.0-3.0
    • Exchange/Direct Enroll programs: range 2.5-3.0. If your cumulative GPA is between a 2.48-2.5, please visit the conditional admission section or more information.
    • Affiliate Programs: range 2.0-3.3

Academic and Disciplinary Standing

  • All students must be in good academic and disciplinary standing at the time of application in order to participate. Students must pass a criminal and discipline history review.
  • OIE reserves the right to revoke participation if student falls out of good academic or disciplinary standing prior to program departure.

Financial Standing with OIE

  • Students must be in good financial standing with the OIE and have no outstanding balances from previous study abroad programs or terms in order to participate.

If you do not meet the eligibility criteria and are not accepted to study abroad, OIE will not bill you an application fee. We encourage you to work hard, improve your academic/disciplinary standing, and apply again for a later term.
