OIE is excited to share that Illinois State University has been selected by the Institute of International Education (IIE) to receive a grant from the IIE American Passport Project. This project will help support 25 eligible Illinois State students to obtain a U.S. passport.
As a part of this process, students must submit a digital application to the Study Abroad Office by November 1, 2023. See sidebar for application link.
- Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, as such it is encouraged to submit an application early
- Once reviewed, students will be notified via email if they have been selected
- Please note: There are additional steps required after acceptance in order to receive the grant, students should be prepared to complete these in a timely manner.

Eligibility
- U.S. citizen;
- First-year student, 18 years of age or older, enrolled at the awarded institution;
- Pell grant eligible;
- and, Meets any of these diversity identity characteristics: racial/ethnic minorities, LGBTQIA+ students, gender diverse students, first-generation student (first in family to attend or graduate from a college or university), students with disabilities, students with demonstrated financial need, veterans, non-traditional age students, students who have never traveled abroad, or other historically marginalized or underrepresented identities in study abroad at the institution.
Please note: Students who are trying to renew an adult U.S. passport are NOT eligible.

Application and Acceptance Timeline
- ISU Grant Application Due by: November 1, 2023
- IIE Passport Project Follow Up Forms Due by: January 31, 2024
- U.S. Passport Application Due by: March 1, 2024
