Repeat Participation

Illinois State students are permitted to study abroad more than once. However, students may not exceed more than 39 total hours at a foreign institution abroad.

Programs affected by this requirement include those which a transcript from the host university is granted. Some Faculty-Led programs do not fall under this requirement. Please ask your Study Abroad Advisor if your are unsure about your program.

Students who feel they have a compelling reason to exceed 39 hours are welcome to submit an appeal.

Students interested in submitting an appeal must send an email outlining the following information

  • Student name and UID number
  • Previous study abroad participation
    • Location
    • Duration
    • Total number of credits earned for each program
  • Proposed future study abroad destination
  • Reason for desired participation
